Specialness

"Specialness is the ego's version of love" ~ A Course In Miracles

The ego absolutely craves specialness. In my experience, Life
takes care of the letting go of specialness and any clinging to personal attributes or possessions or relationships that seem to sustain it.

We are brought through a period where the places we hold on to for specialness are kind of taken from us. It will either look like that or it will literally happen. Either way there's a burning up of the beliefs that we are an important somebody.

So there's burning....and there's also the watching of where "specialness thoughts" arise. And we can be gentle with those thoughts, just seeing them as typical ego, nothing to condemn at all. If we recoil from them, we give them more life.

Yes. And isn't it amazing that the commerce of the world runs on the promotion of personal 'specialness'!

It's been the case here that Life took care of the burning up by physically placing me at remove from all the contexts in which I was known to 'shine'. :-)
